  21. 1. How to install & run EASI-PLAN Pro
  22. ---------------------------------------

  24. EASI-PLAN can be installed via Windows (recommended) or DOS.
  25.  
  26. Via Windows:
  27. -----------
  28. a) Unzip the supplied archive file "EASI*.ZIP" (most probably you have 
  29. already done this if you are reading this message). 
  30. b) Move all the extracted files into a new sub-directory (EASIP3 is 
  31. the recommended name).
  32. c) Use Program or File Manager ("File | Run") to run "Easiplan.exe". 
  33. This installation program will extract files, create a new Program 
  34. Group, and set up icons for EASI-PLAN and its text files within this 
  35. Group. 
  36. d) Switch to the EASI-PLAN Program Group, click on the "Try Easi-Plan" 
  37. icon and away you go..

  39. Note:  If you register your copy of Easi-Plan, refer to Section 3 
  40. below about running the registered version of EASI-PLAN through 
  41. Windows.  
  42.  
  43. Via DOS:
  44. -------
  45. a) Unzip the supplied archive file "EASI*.ZIP" (most probably you have 
  46. already done this if you are reading this message). 
  47. b) Move all the extracted files into a new sub-directory (EASIP3 is 
  48. the recommended name).
  49. c) Unzip a further file called "EASIPLAN.EXE" which will be located 
  50. within the EASIP3 sub-directory. Note that this is another archive 
  51. file and is NOT an executable - if you try to run it directly from DOS 
  52. as an executable you will get an error message.
  53. d) Run an introductory program called GO.BAT by typing "GO". This will 
  54. lead you into EASI-PLAN. If your PC uses a very old display, do not 
  55. select this option - choose  e) below.

  59. e) Type "EP MASTER" to load EASI-PLAN along with a set of specimen 
  60. assumptions in a file called MASTER.ASS.
  61.  
  62. Notes:  
  63. (1) If you register your copy of Easi-Plan, refer to Section 3 
  64. below about running the registered version of EASI-PLAN through 
  65. Windows. 
  66.  
  67. (2) If you register your copy of EASI-PLAN and wish to continue 
  68. running it through DOS, you should type "EP X". Press RETURN to 
  69. ignore the 'File does not exist' message and then use the cursor 
  70. keys and RETURN to select the desired *.ASS file in response to the 
  71. instruction "Enter Data File Name" which appears at the top of the 
  72. screen. If more than five such data files exist, press the F3 
  73. Function Key to display them all within a larger window.

  76. 2. Things to know before exploring EASI-PLAN 
  77. --------------------------------------------
  78.  
  79. Before exploring EASI-PLAN, you need to know that:
  80.  
  81.     All commands are executable from a Main Menu, sub-menus
  82.     or function key menus. At any stage, the Main Menu can be
  83.     retrieved by pressing the F10 function key once. You can
  84.     access context-sensitive Help Pages by pressing F1 at any
  85.     time.
  86.  
  87.     Whenever a report is being displayed on the screen, you can
  88.     use certain function keys to perform the actions explained 
  89.     in the menu strip displayed at the bottom of the screen.
  90.     Additional function key commands can be used to call up 
  91.     special facilities for entering data etc. These can be 
  92.     accessed by holding down the ALT key on the keyboard while 
  93.     tapping one of the indicated function keys (press ALT+F1 
  94.     for help).

  96. If you get lost at any stage, try pressing the function key F10 
  97. to return to the Main Menu. If a system error is encountered, 
  98. press the RETURN key (or CTRL+BREAK) and then F10. If a 'secured 
  99. cell' message is encountered, press RETURN to clear it.

  102. 3. Running the registered version of EASI-PLAN through Windows
  103. --------------------------------------------------------------

  105. (This is only relevant if you have remotely upgrade your copy of 
  106. EASI-PLAN to the registered version and wish to run it on an ongoing 
  107. basis through Windows - see Register.txt and the Upgrade command in 
  108. the Main Menu.)
  109.  
  110. If you are already running the shareware version of EASI-PLAN through 
  111. Windows, you will *still* need to follow most of the procedure 
  112. described below. You should open the Properties box for your 
  113. installed copy of EASI-PLAN (click on the EASI-PLAN icon and use 
  114. Program Manager's File Properties command) and then follow the 
  115. instructions given below for steps 4 & 5.

  117. To set up the registered version of EASI-PLAN to run within Windows, 
  118. run Program Manager and proceed as follows:
  119.  
  120.   1. Select the Applications Group which you want to contain EASI-PLAN.
  121.   2. Select File and New options from the Program Manager's menu.
  122.   3. When the New Program Object box appears, select Program Item
  123.      and OK.
  124.   4. When the Program Item Properties box appears, proceed as
  125.      follows:
  126.       
  127.      - Type "EASI-PLAN Pro" as the Description.
  128.      - Type "C:\EASIP3\EP X" as the Command Line. Make sure you enter
  129.        a single space between EP and X. This command assumes that
  130.        EASI-PLAN has been installed to the EASIP3 sub-directory on
  131.        a hard disk called C.
  132.      - Enter "C:\EASIP3" as the Working Directory.
  133.      - Select Change Icon and select OK when the Change Icon message
  134.        box appears.
  135.      - When the next Change Icon box appears, enter
  136.        "C:\EASIP3\EASIPLAN.ICO" as the File Name and select OK.
  137.      - Once you return to the Program Item Properties box select
  138.        OK twice to complete installation.

  140.    5. To run EASI-PLAN within Windows, double-click on its icon and 
  141.       wait while it loads. Press RETURN to ignore the 'File does not 
  142.       exist' message and then use the cursor keys and RETURN to select 
  143.       the desired *.ASS file in response to the instruction 'Enter 
  144.       Data File Name" which appears at the top of the screen. If more 
  145.       than five such data files exist, press the F3 Function Key to 
  146.       display them in a larger window.

  148. ***** If using Windows 3.1 - WATCH OUT ****
  149.  
  150. If you try to display graphs when running EASI-PLAN in a DOS Window 
  151. within Windows 3.1 (i.e. less than full screen) when running in 
  152. Enhanced Mode, the graphs may not show and the display may lock. To 
  153. unlock it, return to a full DO screen by pressing ALT+RETURN. Always 
  154. use a DOS full screen when displaying EASI-PLAN graphs.
